KPD: Fake parking ticket found on car in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The Knoxville Police Department is warning drivers to keep an eye out for suspicious citations after an “apparently fraudulent” parking ticket was left on a Knoxville resident’s car.

The police department shared a photo of the fake citation on Facebook Tuesday afternoon, sharing that it is the only one of its kind that the department is aware of at this time.

There is a P.O. box number listed to pay for the fake ticket. It’s the same P.O. box that the City of Knoxville’s website lists to pay tickets online.

Another aspect that may make the ticket seem legitimate is the logo seen at the top of fake ticket. While that badge-shaped icon does appear on the department’s recruitment website , it is not the department’s official logo nor the design used on officer badges.

Even the details of the fine amounts for specific violations and the location where impounded vehicles are located is correct.

So how can you protect yourself for falling for one of these fake tickets? KPD said if you receive a citation that looks like the one in the picture or appears to be suspicious, call the Knoxville Municipal Court to verify the ticket’s authenticity. Contact information for the court is available on the City’s website.
