KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — A Kinston man has been arrested and is facing first-degree murder charges, according to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office.

Lionel Keys, 68, was arrested and charged on Wednesday. He was also charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property following a shooting in the 1400 block of Hamilton Boulevard in Kinston.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for a call of someone who was shot. The victim, Leejerald Namath Rhodes, 53, of Kinston, was shot in the right arm with a long gun. He was transported to UNC Health Lenoir, where he was treated for his injuries.

Detectives quickly developed Keys as the suspect, took him into custody and transported him to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office, where he received no bond.
