After two decades in business, Salazar’s Grill and Bar in Kingsburg served customers for the last time on Sunday.

Salazar’s, a beloved Mexican restaurant, closed its doors after 20 years in business, with the owners electing not to sign a lease extension on their property.

“We’ll always be thankful for your loyal patronage, love and friendship,” a note on the restaurant’s door reads. “We shared our life concerns and offered encouraging words and prays [sic].”

The note was signed by owners Henry Salazar and his partner Bob Bethel. Salazar is among the four children of Salvador Salazar, the Valley restaurateur who founded the storied Sal’s Mexican Restaurant in 1942 in Selma.

The note thanked customers for their support and memories, highlighting patrons’ kindness and class.

Much of the restaurant’s furniture, equipment and various kitchen appliances will be up for auction this Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the Fresno Auction House website .

In 2019, Bethel and Salazar closed their Henry Salazar’s Fresh Mex Grill in Visalia after 23 years in business due to rising rent.
