Local Shop Celebrates all things New York
A little piece of Albany awaits inside Fort Orange General Store, where you can find and strut your local pride! The shop, located on Broadway near UAlbany, is owned by Albany native Erica Cubello, who turned a little joke with her husband into a business celebrating the Capital Region. On a whim, she sent a photo of a 'for sale' sign in front of the business to her husband, who replied 'let's do it'.

The Dean House: A 1735 Colonial With Three Names, on 11 Acres in Canaan
The town of Canaan was incorporated in 1739. The house at 167 Beebe Hill Road predates all of that by three years. Built in 1735, it has accumulated three names—the Dean House, the Horsford Homestead, the Howe’s Home— which trace successive generations of the families who shaped the early settlement of the Northwest Corner. The Horsfords were among the earliest proprietors of Canaan; David and John Horsford appear in the genealogical records of the town’s founding generation. A major two-story addition was completed in 1804, the same year the South Canaan Congregational Church went up at the center of the old town, expanding the footprint to 6,034 square feet while preserving the original structure within it.
