Seymour restaurant closes after less than 2 years of business
SEYMOUR, Tenn. — A Seymour restaurant that opened in late 2022 has closed after less than two years of business. The 1783 Eatery was located on Chapman Highway and was owned by Stokely Hospitality Enterprises, a Sevierville company that also owns the Applewood Grill Restaurant and Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant.
Oak Ridge receives Tennessee’s eighth Safe Haven Baby Box
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Oak Ridge is now home to Tennessee eighth Safe Haven Baby Box. It’s located at the Oak Ridge Fire Department’s Station 3 at 333 Tuskegee Dr. On top of marking the state’s eighth baby box, it’ll be the sixth in East Tennessee. There are other locations across Middle and West Tennessee in Hendersonville, Lawrenceburg and Jackson.

Juneteenth, now recognized as a federal holiday, will see the City of Knoxville shutting down its offices on June 19, 2024, to honor and reflect upon this important milestone in American history – the day that marks the end of slavery in the United States. As announced by the City of Knoxville, despite office closures, essential services will continue as normal; this includes trash and recycling pickup, operating on their regular schedule, with recycling centers also open and ready to accept donations, and Goodwill attendance in place to help with donations.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Hope is on the horizon in the fight against drug overdoses, with new data from the Knox County Forensic Center. In Knox County, 519 people died from an overdose in 2023. That's a 5% drop from the previous year. In 2022, the county reported 544 overdose deaths.
