Longview exterminator says ‘prevention is key’ ahead of fire ant season
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Spring has sprung, and with that comes fire ants. Experts say the time to treat them is now. During the winter months, fire ants stay beneath the ground to keep warm. Cary Sims, a Texas A&M Agrilife agent said when warmer weather approaches, the ants come out and begin to spread.
Gaston Museum closure: Preserving history in a new chapter
After almost 20 years of showcasing Rusk County history, the Gaston Museum board has decided to close the facility, citing a lack of funding and manpower. The museum has played host to curated exhibits depicting life during the East Texas oil boom and the history of wealth and success that followed. That influx of money funded the Gaston School, which held records as the largest rural school in the world with more than 1,800 students enrolled before it merged with New London in 1965 to form West Rusk Consolidated ISD.
