Pride month, first acknowledged on June 28, 1970, with a march in New York City, marked the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. On June 28, 1969, the New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn in which started the Stonewall Riots – six days of protests and violence. The Stonewall Inn is a known LBGTQ+ club located in Greenwich Village in New York City.
