In a solemn commemoration of bravery and sacrifice, the Grand Prairie Police Department continues to honor the memory of Officer Albert "A.J." Castaneda Jr., who was tragically killed in the line of duty nearly five years ago. A.J. Castaneda, who had built an illustrious career in law enforcement after serving in the United States Coast Guard, was struck and subsequently succumbed to his injuries following a tragic accident on June 7, 2019. A 17-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and hit the officer who was on duty on the President George Bush Turnpike, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in North Richland Hills on Thursday night, police said. Police in a news release said the incident was reported to 911 around 8:45 p.m. in the 8600 block of eastbound Texas 183/Airport Freeway, which is near the Northeast Loop 820 split.
