The Polk County Fire District No. 1 was dispatched to a report of an apartment fire with a possible trapped victim April 19 at 8:07 a.m. According to PCFD, units arrived on the scene at 8:11 a.m. with smoke and flames showing from an upstairs apartment on Clay Street in Monmouth. The apartment occupant met firefighters outside and reported that she had been alone in the apartment with her two dogs, one of which had run out of the apartment with her. Judy Florence (Bilant) Allen, 81, passed away March 30, 2024, in Salem, Oregon. She was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Forsyth, as the second daughter of Joseph and Doris (Hodge) Bilant.In 1945, her family moved to Whitefish, when her father was hired as a teacher and coach. Judy and her siblings, Jolene, Joyce, David and Bonnie Jo, flourished in the small-town life and values. She graduated in 1960.She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Kitty, and former husband Ed Wright.She is remembered with love by her siblings, Jolene Smith, Joyce Zahorsky, David Bilant, and Bonnie Jo Bilant; husband, Dan Allen; daughter, Mary Jo Brock (Jim); granddaughters, Ashley Hogan (Sean), Alysia Rodgers (Tyler), Tasha Brock, and Kira Brock; grandson, Matt Brock; and numerous great-grandchildren.A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on April 27, at the South Salem Senior Center. Fire crews in Polk County respond to 2-alarm barn fire east of Dallas
Fire crews in Polk County put out a two-alarm barn fire Wednesday morning on Briedwell Road east of Dallas. The fire was reported at 9:21 a.m. Crews from Southwest Polk Fire District, Dallas Fire and Polk County Fire District No. 1 responded with six engines and two water tenders to the farm where the barn was totally engulfed in flames.
Man dead after falling 30 feet in Salem motorcycle crash
SALEM Ore. (KPTV) - A man is dead after a motorcycle crash on the off-ramp of the Center Street Bridge, according to the Salem Police Department. Around 6:10 p.m., officers responded to the scene where 27-year-old Mark Steven Sewell of Salem was riding a motorcycle eastbound over the bridge. As Sewell took the off-ramp, officers said he lost control and crashed into the concrete barrier.
