Patrick Mahomes may be the best player on the Kansas City Chiefs roster, but he's no longer the most popular, at least when it comes to jersey sales.

That honor now belongs to ... Harrison Butker?!

It wouldn't have been shocking had it been Travis Kelce who surpassed Mahomes as the best-selling jersey. Considering his popularity and relationship with Taylor Swift, it's easy to say that Kelce got a whole new fanbase.

So sure enough, Butker's emergence as one of the NFL's best-selling jerseys, even surpassing Mahomes, is shocking to say the least.

However, for those not in the know, the buzz around the Chiefs kicker didn't come out of nowhere. Butker is trending recently , but not for the best of reasons.

Harrison Butker made some controversial comments during a recent college graduation speech. His particular take on working women was deemed by many as misogynistic and sexist.

"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother," Butker said in his speech.

The issue has gotten so viral that even the NFL, the Chiefs and Kansas City have been distancing themselves from him. Most recently, the league issued a statement to address the matter.

"Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity," NFL senior VP and chief diversity and inclusion officer Jonathan Beane said in a statement. "His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

There have also been calls for the Chiefs to cut Butker . For now, though, it's unknown if the team will do anything.

Clearly, though, even the negative publicity has helped Butker become more popular.
