Bills add two-time Super Bowl champ to new-look WR room

Bills quarterback Josh Allen's arsenal of weapons is going to look very different in 2024.

Buffalo let WR Gabe Davis (Jaguars) walk in free agency and then traded WR Stefon Diggs to the Texans in April but added yet another playmaker on Tuesday to help fill the void.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling plans to sign a one-year deal worth up to $4.5 million, including a $1.125 million signing bonus, with the Bills.

Valdes-Scantling fielded interest from several other teams , including the Chargers and Saints, but opted to play with Allen after starting his career by playing with Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

The 29-year-old has spent the past two seasons with Kansas City where he registered 63 catches for 1,002 yards and three touchdowns. He also had two big catches (30- and 32-yard passes) that helped the Chiefs beat Buffalo in the playoffs last season.

That may be one of the biggest reasons why the Bills wanted to add Valdes-Scantling as he's helped Kansas City win back-to-back Super Bowls.

Valdes-Scantling is joining a revamped wide receiver room that includes the new arrivals of 2024 first-round draft pick Keon Coleman and veterans Curtis Samuel, Chase Claypool and Mack Hollins.

The speedy wide receiver has struggled with consistency and drops the past two seasons, playing a large role in the Chiefs leading the league in dropped passes ( 44 ).

However, the Bills are hoping he can play more like he did down the stretch in 2023 than earlier in the year and help them finally get over their postseason hump.

Only time will tell if Buffalo's major overhaul of its receiver room will pay off, but there's no arguing the team has surrounded Allen with a ton of talent after losing two of his top targets (Diggs and Davis) over the past four years.
