KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are investigating a deadly crash Friday morning following a collision between a car and a train where investigators say the car driver went around lowered railroad crossing arms.

The Kansas City Fire Department initially reported that it responded to the crash involving one car just before 8 a.m., and found the scene south of Blue Ridge and Holmes, near Martin City.

Kansas City police released more information about the crash Friday afternoon and said a Union Pacific freight train was headed north while the driver of a blue Jaguar S-type was headed north on Holmes.

The crash report says the Jaguar driver ignored warning lights and audible signals, going around the arms, and was struck by the front of the train at the second crossing.

Police say the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, they’re the only victim. The train crew wasn’t hurt.
