Homeless urban campers in Aurora may soon be funneled to a special court where they would receive services instead of punishment. The Aurora City Council is considering a program known as HEART. HEART stands for housing, employment, assistance, recovery, and teamwork. The council briefly discussed the program Thursday during the Public Safety, Courts, and Civil Service Committee.

The Denver City Council learned more Wednesday about the workforce development component of the Denver Asylum Seekers Program. The city has transitioned the way it helps migrants, closing shelters and instead placing 800 people in the asylum program. That includes people who had been staying in non-congregate hotel shelters, all but one of which have closed. New migrant arrivals will not be eligible for the six-month work program until some graduate, according to a presentation by city staff. The city intends to keep 500 people in the work program at a time, according to Tony Anderson, workforce development manager for the city.
