JUNCTION CITY ( KSNT ) – New information is being released following the surprise departure of Junction City’s chief of police.

City Manager Allen Dinkel for Junction City announced in a press release on April 15 that “workplace concerns” prompted the city to ask a third-party to begin interviewing employees in late February 2024. Some individuals were placed on administrative leave as a precautionary action to reduce concerns of intimidation and/or retaliation.

“City policy governing personnel matters requires that confidentiality be maintained to the maximum extent possible under the circumstances. Although we understand the desire to for details pertaining to the concerns, the information gathered and the third-party’s determinations, maintaining confidentiality is necessary to ensure employees will report any concerning conduct in the future. Prompt reporting is key to prompt resolution and aligns with the City’s strong desire to maintain a positive work environment for all of its employees.”

Two captains with the Junction City Police Department are covering the duties of the chief of police at this time. They will continue in this capacity until an interim or suitable candidate is found.

Dinkel announced last week that Chief of Police John Lamb is no longer working for the Junction City Police Department. He served in the role for around four years.
