Pickup flips off bridge, landing in Turkey Creek 35 feet below

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 7:30 p.m. Wednesday reports of a pickup crashing off Blackcat Road into Turkey Creek alerted Jasper County E-911.

Carl Junction Fire, Jasper County Deputies, and METS ambulance responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

On scene we learn a southbound 2008 Chevy Avalanche crashed off the south edge of the bridge, traveling about 300 feet before coming to rest in the waters of Turkey Creek.

Next of kin are notified. Darren Shockley , 33, of Joplin, was the sole occupant. He was pronounced on the scene.

Shraders Towing removed the pickup and debris from the creek.

The investigation reveals alcohol may have played a factor in the fatal crash.
