Extra police patrols on “420 Day” Capt William Davis of Joplin Police tells KOAM

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — Capt William Davis of the Joplin Police Dept spoke with Elyse Noe on the KOAM Morning News this week about marijuana use and driving as 420 occurs on Saturday.

Even though marijuana usage was passed in Missouri and made legal. There are still restrictions on how you can consume it. Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of marijuana is still illegal.

We have 4-20, April 20, we know there could be an increase in consumption that day, so we are asking people to be responsible. Make plans ahead of time for sober rides or make sure you won’t be driving under the influence. We are going to have extra enforcement efforts going on, we will have extra officers out on the street through the night looking for those impaired drivers hoping to take them off the road and making it safer .”

Recent media releases also reveal Kansas and Oklahoma have stepped up patrols for Saturday.

  • Kansas all marijuana use is illegal.
  • Oklahoma it is legal for medical use only.
  • Arkansas have a statewide weekend campaign. All marijuana use is prohibited.

UPDATE : The DWI patrol bus is out in Joplin Saturday evening. There is no checkpoint. The bus is merely a place to do paperwork and coordinate who is being transported to jail regarding DWI charges.
