Next Tuesday, voters will head to the polls for local elections in both Missouri and Oklahoma. In Joplin, voters will decide whether to renew the city's Capital Improvement Sales Tax. This week, the tax committee met for one last time before the vote. The topic of polling locations was among the agenda items, in addition to where to go if a voter has questions about the tax.

Ben Leavens is the Chairperson of the Capital Improvement Committee. He says for those who still have questions about the tax, volunteers will be set up at some of the polling sites to help.

"So if you come and you don't know all the answers and you're on the fence about it, and one of our committee members does show up, you'll see them there with a sign," says Leavens. "They're just there to tell you about the tax."

The city of Joplin began collecting revenue on the 3/8 cent sales tax in 2004. Voters approved to renew it for another 10 years in 2014. Since the last renewal, the tax has funded 14 road projects. This time the city is seeking a 12 year renewal.
