Starmount wins, seniors honored
The Starmount softball team won its Monday game against North Stokes with a final score of 10-2. The Starmount baseball team claimed a 4-3 victory over East Wilkes on Friday. The team's senior students were honored at a special ceremony at the game.
Bears host NW1A Tennis Tournament
Mount Airy hosted the Northwest 1A Conference Tennis Tournament Championship April 23-24. Defending 1A State Champion Elkin swept the conference’s top individual prizes. Senior Owen Jennings, who was also voted NW1A Player of the Year, won the singles bracket by only dropping a combined two games across three matches. Sophomores Connor Ballard and Aidan Ballard won the doubles bracket without dropping a set, last defeating Mount Airy’s Kannon Strickland and Connor Sechrist 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in the championship match. ...
Running the Vines event on tap soon
DOBSON — At first glance the Running the Vines event has no direct relationship to Special Olympics, but that program will be a key beneficiary of the annual 5K and 10K races at Shelton Vineyard later this month. Organizers are eyeing a hoped-for turnout of 400 runners to maximum the proceeds for the other aforementioned athletic pursuit: local Special Olympics sports activities benefiting youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. Forbush baseball conference champs
Forbush won its conference championship by defeating East Surry last Tuesday. This is the 16th conference championship in school history and 11th under Coach Jack Moss. Currently Forbush is ranked 4th in 2A Western Region in the state. The Foothills 2A will start this week with Forbush playing East Surry in the semifinals and West Wilkes playing North Surry. Winners will meet Thursday night at Forbush at 7 p.m. Forbush High School seniors on the baseball team were honored at a special ceremony last Tuesday. Forbush baseball also recognized the 2005, 2006, and 2007 conference championship teams highlighted by the 2006 State runner-up team at a recent game.
Locals compete in FH2A Tennis Tournament
EAST BEND — East Surry’s Kade Talton and Levi Watson highlighted the Foothills 2A Conference Tournament by repeating as Doubles Champions. Watson/Talton defeated Surry Central’s Maddox Martin and Isaac Eller 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match. East Surry is the only FH2A team to win an individual conference championship each of the past three years. Forbush to celebrate soccer seniors
FHS Women’s Soccer will host its Senior Night on Friday, May 3 at the Forbush High School soccer field. The Falcons will host North Wilkes. Seniors on the team will be recognized in a special ceremony starting at 5:15 p.m. The Lady Falcons claimed a 3-0 victory over Surry Central on Thursday and a 1-0 win over North Surry last Tuesday, April 23.
