Gainesville fences Lynch Park as part of refresh efforts
The city of Gainesville installed a six-foot fence around the perimeter of Haisley Lynch Park on Thursday to revitalize the space and continue downtown refresh efforts. The park, located just across from St. Francis House on S. Main Street, has been used by homeless individuals as shelter. Gainesville Fire Rescue Chief Joe Dixon said staff coordinated with GRACE Marketplace to get nine or 10 people placed within the shelter from Lynch Park.
Largest class of first-year students at FAMU from Alachua County were recognized Wednesday
The largest class of freshmen from Alachua County to enroll at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee were recognized at a ceremony on Wednesday night. Hosted by the Alachua County chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association, the commitment ceremony included chapter president Boderick Johnson saying the university received 24,000 applications from first-year students, of which 1,600 were accepted into the prestigious historically Black college/university (HBCU).

Gainesville area gas prices drop five cents
While the average price per gallon decreased 12 cents throughout Florida, the cost went down only five cents in the Gainesville area since last week. According to Thursday’s weekly AAA release, the price at the pump in the Gainesville area went from $3.66 last week to $3.61 per gallon. Statewide, the price went from $3.63 to $3.51, and nationally the average cost dropped three cents from $3.67 to $3.64.
High Springs Residents and business owners voice support and concern over alcoholic beverage ordinance
