No classes at Johnston High School Wednesday due to storm damage

JOHNSTON, Iowa — Severe weather that blew through the metro on Tuesday means no classes at one suburban high school on Wednesday.

The Johnston School District says the storm broke out several windows at the high school, caused roof damage, ripped off an overhead door, and destroyed a shed.

The district dismissed early on Tuesday because of the threat of severe weather, so classes were not in session at the time the storm hit.

In an email to the district, Superintendent Dr. Nikki Roorda said that due to the extensive damage, classes at the high school will be canceled on Wednesday.

Johnston expects to reopen the school on a modified schedule Thursday.

Classes at all the other schools in the district won’t be affected Wednesday.
