Shady Oaks Garden Club will host garden tour

The Shady Oaks Garden Club will present a tour of seven unique and beautiful gardens in Johnson City Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The tour is called “Feast and Flower” because these rarely-opened gardens were chosen for their variety: Several devote significant space to edibles, including at least one urban homestead with chickens. Others have taken ordinary yards and over many years, in some cases generations, created gorgeous perennial borders, raised vegetable beds, elegant container plantings, focal point patios, stone paths, bridges, terraced gardens, koi ponds, and a dazzling array of plants and trees.

In addition to the private gardens, the Carver Peace Garden will be open. It contains over 70 raised beds which may be rented for a nominal fee, as well as a recently-installed native perennial pollinator habitat. One of the tour gardens will also have refreshments, live music, and a plant sale. All plants in the sale were grown by members of the Shady Oaks Garden Club. These lovely, healthy plants will be offered at attractive prices.

Tickets for the Feast and Flower Garden Tour are $10 per person. The ticket contains addresses of all of the gardens, as well as additional information about each stop on the tour. Advance sale tickets are available from Shady Oaks Garden Club members, at the Fischman Gallery at 133 North Commerce Street, or through Eventbrite at shadyoaksgardenclub.org.

On the day of the tour only, tickets will be sold at 112 Belmeade Circle, Johnson City.

The Shady Oaks Garden Club was organized in 1958 and is part of Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. Our mission is to help beautify Johnson City and increase appreciation of horticulture, landscape and floral design, gardening, and environment. The club welcomes new members.
