Science Hill ranked 10th in state high schools, 3 other locals in top 20

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Four Northeast Tennessee high schools found themselves in the top 20 high schools in the state, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings.

The U.S. News & World Report creates its rankings based on multiple criteria, including college readiness, state assessments, underserved student performance and graduation rate.

Science Hill High School earned the 10th spot in Tennessee’s high school rankings. According to the U.S. News & World Report, Science Hill boasts a graduation rate of 96% and a college readiness score of 40.5.

“Our recent ranking is the result of our staff’s commitment to excellence and our students’ hard work,” Science Hill Principal Dr. Josh Carter said in a news release. “It is also the result of the continued support of our Board of Education and City Commission. We could not be more proud of this accomplishment as we strive to continue to offer the best education for all students and families in our community.”

Science Hill also ranked 864th in the publication’s national rankings of high schools. Last year, Science Hill was ranked 14th in the state.

Greeneville High School had the second-highest Tennessee ranking in the region, earning the 18th spot. Greeneville had a 98% graduation rate and a college readiness score of 23.5.

Dobyns-Bennett High School was ranked 19th in the state with a 93% graduation rate and a 28.1 in college readiness.

University School in Johnson City claimed the 20th spot in the state rankings.
