Thousands without power in south Georgia due to Isaias

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Thousands of people are without power in south Georgia as Hurricane Isaias moves through the area. The storm made landfall around 9:30 p.m. as a Category 2. Landfall was made right around Destin, Fla. As of midnight, the counties with the most outages were Quitman, Clay, Decatur, Randolph, and Calhoun.

Flood warning issued for Ochlockonee River near Thomasville from Saturday night

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Ochlockonee River near Thomasville at US 84, with minor flooding forecast from late Saturday into next week. The warning covers the river in Thomas and Grady counties. It begins at 11 p.m. Saturday, October 10, and runs through Wednesday afternoon, according to the NWS Tallahassee bulletin issued at 9:05 p.m. Friday.

Isaias may be 'prolific tornado producer' for Tallahassee, Big Bend

Forecasters urge Big Bend residents to keep their cellphone alerts on as Hurricane Isaias makes a projected landfall near the Florida/Alabama line, bringing with it the risk of tornadoes and training outer rain bands that could bring severe flooding wherever they set up. The timing of Isaias’ projected landfall moved up with the National Hurricane Center’s 5 a.m. Oct. 9 advisory, with forecasters saying it will come ashore the evening of Friday, Oct. 9. “Rush any remaining preparations to completion before late morning,” the National Weather Service in Tallahassee said. The Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, including Bay, Calhoun, Dixie, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Suwannee, Taylor and Wakulla counties. The watch was in effect until 9 p.m. Eastern time. A tropical storm warning remained in effect for Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, Liberty and Wakulla counties in the Big Bend, while Jefferson County was under a tropical storm watch. FLORIDA PANHANDLE — A high-end tornado setup is developing for the Florida Panhandle, southern Georgia, and southeast Alabama as Hurricane Isaias makes landfall. Numerous tornadoes are expected to the right of the storm’s center from Friday evening through Friday night and into early Saturday.
