Even as Democrats reclaimed control of the U.S. House and posted gains across the country, Republican Austin Rogers held Florida's 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday, denying Democrats a breakthrough in North Florida despite the party's most favorable political environment in more than a decade. Rogers received 160,746 votes, or 52.2%, to Green's 146,862 votes, or 47.8%, according to unofficial results from all 16 counties in the district. The victory allows the 35-year-old Bay County attorney to succeed retiring five-term U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn and extends Republican control of the seat into a second decade. The open-seat race had become a test of whether Democratic gains fueled by frustration with President Donald Trump could overcome the districts deep red tilt the GOP has enjoyed for a decade. Trump carried the district by roughly 18 percentage points in 2024. While Green improved on recent Democratic performances by narrowing Republican margins Rogers held enough Republican territory to keep the seat in GOP hands. Green's path depended on piling up votes in Tallahassee, the district's Democratic center, while cutting into Republican advantages elsewhere. She did both. Green carried Leon County, the district's largest, by a margin of 83,344 votes to 39,424 for Rogers. She

Tallahassee, Florida — a city where the oaks drip with Spanish moss and the air hums with the laughter of students, where the red-brick heart of the South beats alongside the rhythm of new arrivals, where every block is stitched with stories and the scent of something simmering. Here, the city’s soul is a patchwork: Seminole pride, Southern hospitality, and the vibrant pulse of a capital that never quite sits still. It’s a place where college kids and lifelong locals share the same sun, where food is both a memory and a promise, and where every meal feels like a homecoming.
Many of the dreamiest Florida Panhandle landscapes are defined by sugary beaches wrapped around the turquoise waters of the Gulf Coast, but venturing slightly inland can take you from seaside panoramas to forested escapes. One such wooded retreat easily accessible from Tallahassee is the Apalachicola National Forest. It's a massive refuge of over 635,000 acres with incredibly diverse landscapes, from shadowy swamps and winding rivers to underwater caves and a dense stretch of hardwoods that feels more Southern Appalachians than subtropical coast.
