Tourism generates record $2.5 billion for greater Birmingham in 2023
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Greater Birmingham tourism industry generated over $2.5 billion dollars in 2023, according to new numbers released by the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau. The GBCVB says tourism supported 51,550 jobs and contributed $296 million in state and local taxes. WBRC is told the figures surpass all previous levels of impact generated by tourism in Jefferson County.
Coca-Cola United officially set to build $330 million campus in Kingston community
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — Coca-Cola Bottling Company United is officially set to build a $330 million campus in Birmingham's Kingston community. "It's been over ten years we've been working on it so now we start moving forward with construction, the plan we have laid out, starting putting it in action. It's about a three year project, it'll take that long, so sometime in 2027 we should be opening the doors," said Coca-Cola United President and CEO Mike Suco. "It'll be a beautiful facility, we will house a warehouse facility, sales and distribution facility, our corporate headquarters and distribution center, so it'll be amazing, something we're really proud of."

After operating out of its 4600 East Lake Boulevard location for nearly 50 years, a new Coca-Cola plant has been approved to be built in Jefferson County. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced Thursday that Coca-Cola Bottling Company United plans to invest approximately $330 million to construct a new Birmingham Coca-Cola facility.
JeffCo Considering $2M for New Coca-Cola Development
Jefferson County during its meeting Thursday will consider being part of an economic development project that will create a new gateway in and out of Birmingham. Representatives of Coca-Cola Bottling Company United asked the commission for an economic incentive package of $2 million as the company looks to relocate from its longtime home north of Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport to the former Stockham Valves and Fittings location in Birmingham’s Kingston Neighborhood.
