Tropical Storm Bertha Came Ashore in Louisiana. Its Remnants Still Swelled the Roanoke River.
Tropical Storm Bertha never got within several hundred miles of the Blue Ridge. It came ashore on the Louisiana coast, wandered west into Texas, and fell apart before the week was out. And yet the same storm is a big part of why the Roanoke River climbed toward major flood stage this week, why the low-water bridge between Smith Park and Wasena Park vanished under muddy water, and why city crews spent Friday working to reopen the Roanoke River Greenway.

Cooler air stays for a bit longer
ROANOKE, Va. – Mostly cloudy skies look to remain in place for us through Friday. Could we see some breaks of sun later on Friday? Sure. But the clouds look to be pretty stubborn. A couple of showers will be around as well tonight into Friday. Not a huge coverage area by any means...as a matter of fact, more of us will stay dry than get wet. Patchy fog may form later tonight too.
