Campbell's first-minute goal sets tone for Janesville Craig vs. Madison La Follette

Lily Campbell set the tone right from the kickoff for Janesville Craig’s girls soccer team.

The Cougars kicked off to start the game, and Campbell took a pass out wide, dribble past a Madison La Follette defender and buried a left-footed shot for a first-minute goal.

Craig went on to beat the Lancers 6-0.

“Scoring that early is a pretty effective way to put a stamp on how the game’s going to go,” Craig coach Casey Berg said. “Lily has been our big goal-scorer this year. She has been dynamic, she has been really hungry to score, and she’s putting a lot of quality chances away right now. She let everyone know we weren’t messing around.”

Craig’s six goals came from six players: Campbell, Nevaeh Johnson, Tati Murphy, Macy Huber, Kaitlyn Kessler and Addie Mueller. Campbell and Mueller also had assists.

“Five of the six goals we scored were high-quality goals that were the result of five, six, seven passes being connected beforehand,” Berg said. “They were the product of a lot of players playing well.”

Craig is scheduled to play again at 10 a.m. Saturday at home against Kenosha Tremper, then the Cougars have a Big Eight game Thursday against Verona to close out the regular season.
