Middleton sweeps Big Eight softball doubleheader from Janesville Parker

A two-run error proved costly for Janesville Parker in the first game of a Big Eight softball doubleheader against Middleton at the Janesville Youth Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The Cardinals had tied the game at 2-2 on a Jafferis RBI single, then Megan Button loaded the bases with no one out with a single of her own.

Lilly Keller struck out the next hitter for Parker, and the Vikings made out No. 2 with a fielder’s choice. It looked like they might get out of the inning with the game still tied when Roessler hit a fly ball to right, but two Parker fielders collided and couldn’t haul it in, allowing the two go-ahead runs to score.

Parker cut its deficit back to one in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI groundout by Delaney King, but Button buckled down to finish off the win.

The Cardinals broke out offensively in the second game, beating the Vikings 12-2 in five innings. That game started with Hailey Stroede hitting a home run to center field to lead off the bottom of the first for Middleton, and the team didn’t look back from there.

The Vikings are set to host Lake Geneva Badger for Senior Night at the Youth Sports Complex at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
