Cayden Brandenburg reasserted himself as one of the fastest athletes in the state at the elite Myrhum Invitational in Hartland on Saturday.

He broke his own Janesville Parker school record in the 400-meter dash, taking first in 47.69 seconds and finishing more than two seconds faster than the second-place finisher, who crossed in 49.80 seconds. The interval between Brandenburg and second was roughly as large as the gap between second and 18th.

Brandenburg also ran a dazzling anchor leg in the 1,600-meter relay along with Avery Eastman, Paul Kim and Jonathon Aguiniga.

He received the baton from Aguiniga in fourth place, about two seconds behind the leader from Green Bay Preble. He finished his lap in 48.14 seconds and passed the three runners who had a head start on him to give the Vikings the win in 3 minutes, 25.19 seconds, 0.59 seconds ahead of second-place West De Pere.

Milton’s Ethan Mitchell also had a solid day at the Myrhum Invitational, scoring all 18 of the Red Hawks’ team points with a win in the long jump and top finishes in the triple jump and 110 high hurdles.

Mitchell cleared 22 feet, 1.25 inches in the long jump pit and went 42-8 in the triple jump, good for sixth. His 110 hurdles time of 15.32 seconds was good for fourth.

Harper Brandenburg had Parker’s top performance in the girls meet, taking seventh in the 400 in 59.95 seconds.

Caitlin Zingsheim and Louisa Borsutzky of Milton scored team points for the Red Hawks. Zingsheim’s discus throw of 108 feet, 4 inches, was good for seventh, and Borsutzky tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.
