JANESVILLE, Wis. -- The man charged Monday in the murder of a woman shot her during a dispute about her pregnancy and left her for dead, a criminal complaint alleges.

Logan Barclay, 23, of Janesville is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 22-year-old Kiersten Hansen of Janesville. The Rock County Medical Examiner's Department identified Hansen on Tuesday.

Rock County Medical Examiner identified woman who was killed last week in Janesville

JANESVILLE, Wis. -- The Rock County Medical Examiner's Department released the name of the individual who was discovered dead near the 1400 block of Afton Road, on April 17 in the City of Janesville. The incident was reported at or around 12:46 p.m.

According to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Rock County, Barclay and Hansen had a child together. Hansen's mother identified Barclay as her daughter's on-again, off-again boyfriend.

Hansen was found dead along Peace Trail near Afton Road in Janesville on April 17. Two women walking along the trail found her kneeling against a tree. According to the complaint, officers found some personal belongings near her body, including an iPhone charger, but her wallet and cellphone were missing.

The medical examiner wasn't initially able to determine if foul play was involved in Hansen's death, and her hands were covered in too much dirt to acquire a fingerprint to identify her.

Janesville police give details on Peace Trail homicide

JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Janesville police gave an update Friday after a woman was found dead Wednesday afternoon along Peace Trail. A man is in custody in the case.

According to the complaint, a preliminary inspection was performed on April 18. A doctor found that Hansen had a small hole in her lower abdomen, which he believed to be a bullet hole. He contacted law enforcement, who immediately searched the area where Hansen was found for potential evidence but found nothing.

On the same day, Rock County CPS called police for a welfare check on Hansen after she missed two appointments, which was "extremely unusual for her." Detectives were then able to identify Hansen as the victim after looking at her Facebook profile.

Detectives then spoke to Hansen's mother, who said she hadn't seen Hansen since shortly after 8 p.m. on April 16. She said Barclay had come to pick Hansen up that night. She said Hansen had recently told her that she might have been pregnant again.

According to the complaint, officers found Barclay at K&W Greenery in Janesville. While there, he said that he knew Hansen but hadn't spoken with her since the night of April 16. He told police that he was going to go to Hansen's house on April 16 but canceled because of rainy weather.

He claimed that he and Hansen weren't currently dating but said that if she was pregnant then he was likely the father. He said they had gone for a walk on the night of April 14 to discuss a possible pregnancy.

Detectives continued to speak with Barclay at the Janesville Police Department on the evening of April 18. According to the complaint, he said that he and Hansen had a son together but his parents are the child's caretakers. He said he had thought Hansen was going to have an abortion and became extremely angry when she decided to have the child instead.

He allegedly claimed to have not seen Hansen in person since April 14, and had called off his April 16 visit and gone to some friends' house to hang out and drink.

Logan Barclay Complaint

According to the complaint, detectives accused Barclay of lying, saying his timeline of events didn't line up with what they already knew from speaking to Hansen's mother.

Barclay allegedly admitted to lying and changed his story, saying he picked up Hansen on April 16 and drove to a trail near his house to walk by the river and "see the lightning." He said he then dropped her off back at her home.

Detectives accused Barclay of lying again, saying they knew his story couldn't be true because Hansen's mother told them her daughter never came home that night, and her body was found on the trail near Barclay's home.

Barclay then allegedly changed his story again. According to the complaint, he said he was angry with Hansen because she was pregnant and did not want to give up the baby. He said he didn't want another child.

He allegedly admitted to telling her "you can't keep it or I will do it my way." He said that was an empty threat and the dispute ended there.

Detectives again accused Barclay of lying, at which point he allegedly confessed to killing Hansen.

According to the complaint, Barclay said he and Hansen went on a walk on April 16 during which she talked about her pregnancy and wanting to keep the child. He allegedly admitted that at one point he "snapped," screamed at her, pulled out a .22 caliber handgun and pointed it at her.

He then allegedly fired a shot at her from about 6-10 feet away. After shooting her, he saw her dropped to her knee and he walked away. He allegedly admitted to taking her phone, driving to her apartment complex and throwing it next to a dumpster. He then went and hung out with his friends.

According to the complaint, Barclay initially said that the shot was an accident. After detectives pointed out that it was suspicious that he shot a pregnant woman in the stomach, he allegedly admitted that he shot her there because he was thinking about "his problem." He allegedly clarified that "his problem" was "being pregnant again."

Barclay allegedly admitted to sending Hansen threatening text messages, including threats about killing the baby. He allegedly said the gun used in the shooting was still at his house.

According to the complaint, detectives were able to find the gun, disassembled, in a shelf at Barclay's home. They also allegedly found a magazine, loaded with .22 rounds, and a box of ammunition. They also found Hansen's phone under a garbage bag in a dumpster near Hansen's apartment complex.

Detectives also spoke with Barclay's friends, who reportedly confirmed that he came over to their house to drink on the night of April 16. One of the friends said Barclay had claimed to not be able to reach Hansen. The friend said Barclay "seemed fine" that night and didn't appear to be worrying or scared about anything.

During an initial appearance on Monday, cash bond for Barclay was set at $1 million. He is set to make another court appearance on Friday.
