Buckhannon recognizes fallen officer at Police Officer Recognition Day
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (WDTV) - The Buckhannon Police Department held the 7th annual Webb Grubb Police Officer Recognition Day Wednesday. During the ceremony, Buckhannon Police Chief Matthew Gregory presented the history of the day and paid tribute to Chief Chesley Grover Mearns, who was shot in the line of duty on August 9, 1921, and died on August 13 of the same year. Chief Mearns was honored and memorialized on the department’s Blue Wall of Honor at the ceremony.

Non-severe storms and rain showers expected to start off your weekend
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - To end off this week in the afternoon today, we are going to see a low pressure system moving over our area, this is going to bring in rain showers and non-severe storms across NCWV. High temps will take a slight drop with these storms getting down into the low to mid 70s in the lowlands and the low 60s in the higher elevations. On early Saturday morning, we will continue to see some heavier rain showers and thunderstorms as well. Saturday afternoon, these rain showers and storms will start to clear up but, there is still a possibility of some scattered showers throughout the area. On Sunday, we are going to start the week right with partly cloudy skies and highs getting up into the 80s for most of us! This is going to continue for the start of your work week! West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission implements new football rules for this fall
The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) unanimously passed two common-sense proposals this week. The first rule is for points given to a team for a win. A previous rule stated that teams could only get bonus points if they defeated a team from the same or higher designation. The new rule now says that a team will earn a point regardless of the opponent’s classification. WCHS, an ABC affiliate in the state, notes that the ranking system for wins remains unchanged meaning that “Class AAAA teams will be valued at 15 points, Class AAA at 12, Class AA at 9 points and Class A at 6 points.” But the biggest and most important change involves blowout games. If a team reaches a 42-point margin by the third quarter, then a rolling clock automatically begins. WCHS notes that “The fourth quarter margin of 35 points remains the same.” Both rules will be in place for this upcoming fall season.

City Parks of Clarksburg and the Clarksburg Amphitheater, regretfully, announces the cancelation of Tony! Toni! Toné! Featuring D’Wayne Wiggins due to unforeseen conflicts. The June 19th concert was going to be a great day for fans and Clarksburg. Everyone worked hard to resolve the unforeseen conflicts. However, after long talks we have decided the only option is to cancel the show. We are hopeful that things might work out in the future and Tony! Toni! Toné! might be able to make their debut in Clarksburg.
