JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Onslow County officials are making strides to protect young kids from the negative impacts of vaping.

Several agencies were involved in an operation across Onslow County. The Jacksonville Police Department raided 71 different vape stores as well as the warehouses.

“We served search warrants on that warehouse and located large amounts of marijuana, large amounts of marijuana gummies and counterfeit packaging materials,” Onslow County Sheriff Chris Thomas said during a media event on Monday.

The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Police Department and multiple surrounding
agencies investigated over 70 establishments. As a result, the following were seized: 104.29 pounds of Schedule I substances, 3,006.30 pounds of THC/Marijuana products and $855,557. A total of 17 arrests were made, 15 of which involved felony-level offenses.

“This is just one step forward in the battle against substance use in our community. With the support of our State legislators, we will work to enforce stricter regulations of harmful substances that can have devastating effects on the well-being of our citizens,” Jacksonville Police Chief Michael Yaniero said.

“We will continue to educate our citizens, especially our targeted youth, on the dangers of these substances and empower them to make choices that allow them to lead healthy lives.”

Onslow County officials and law enforcement are making a push to get action on a state level.
