A feat to remember.

Fans could watch high school baseball for a whole lot of years and never see another playoff performance like Aidan King's Wednesday night outing for Bishop Snyder in the Florida High School Athletic Association Region 1-3A quarterfinals.

The list of achievements? It's a one-hit shutout that fired the Cardinals past Providence 3-0, and so much more.

Aidan King: 20-strikeout night

In the seven-inning high school ballgame, striking out 20 is nearly Mission Impossible. After all, there are only 21 outs to get.

But King, already the Florida strikeout king for the regular season with 118 strikeouts (compared to only six walks) before the ballgame, outdid himself this time.

He struck out the first 10 batters he faced until a mini-jam in the fourth. Andrew Johnson singled for the only Stallion hit of the night, and Nick Nuualiitia drew King's only walk. But the pitcher quickly forced a fielder's choice to end the inning, which was also the only out not to come by way of strikeout.

After that, it was six more strikeouts, a hit batsman (Nick Oliveira) to open the seventh, and then three more strikeouts to hit the 20-K mark and finish the game exactly at the standard FHSAA limit of 105 pitches.

That wasn't King's only achievement Wednesday.

He also blasted a home run to right field during the third inning, extending the Cardinals' edge to 2-0 at the time,

King also hit a double to set up a third run during the fifth.

Where is Aidan King's college baseball destination?

King signed with the University of Florida on Nov. 8.

A right-hander, he entered the year ranked among the top 100 prospects in the 2024 class -- a designation that might improve further once scouts evaluate his performance from this season.

King improved his record to 9-1 with an 0.81 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings in Wednesday's victory.

Which Major League Baseball pitchers have struck out 20 batters in a regulation game?

It's a short list. Roger Clemens attained the feat in 1986 and 1996, both times with the Boston Red Sox; Kerry Wood struck out 20 as a rookie in 1998 with the Chicago Cubs; and Max Scherzer struck out 20 in 2016 with the Washington Nationals. Randy Johnson also struck out 20 in a 2001 game with the Arizona Diamondbacks; although the game continued into extra innings, Johnson tallied all of his K's in nine innings of work and exited before the 10th.
