Dexter Stamping Co. is closing, impacting 66 employees in Jackson
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Automotive supplier and manufacturer Dexter Stamping Co. is expected to close in Jackson at the end of July. On Monday, April 15, the company notified the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity that its facility at 1013 Thorrez Road near Jackson, will permanently close July 31, ending the jobs of 66 employees.
Work has begun on a new school to join all Western elementary students in one building
PARMA, MI -- Ground has been broken and construction has begun on a new centralized elementary school building in the Western School District. Due in part to warmer-than-average winter weather, construction crews were able to begin initial foundation work at the future Western Elementary School site in February, Superintendent Mike Smajda said.

Owners Mary and Daniel Laughlin announced they’re retiring and closing the restaurant. While they said they cherished the customers and staff through the years, it’s time to focus on traveling and spending time with their kids and grandchildren, they said.

Woman free on bond in murder case arrested for impaired driving
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A woman free on bond and facing open murder charges for her alleged role in the death of a Jackson man who was stabbed 70 times has been arrested again. Klaira Diann Mishaw was arrested Tuesday afternoon, on suspected driving while under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest, violating the conditions of her bond, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

$1M anonymous gift brings Jackson’s Cascades Falls reconstruction closer to reality
JACKSON, MI -- Efforts to improve and rehabilitate one of Jackson’s oldest landmarks have gotten a major boost through an anonymous donation. The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has received a $1-million donation from an anonymous local source, officials said. The money was given with the intent to bolster ongoing renovation work at Jackson’s Cascades Falls.
