Family Fun Night next month Brian Smith Wed, 03/27/2024 - 8:50 am With April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, a number of area agencies are combining their forces next month for a Family Fun Night at the Jack County Courthouse. Children’s Advocacy Center For North Texas, which recently opened an office on Church Street in Jacksboro, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are the main sponsors of the event. The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8. A number of community groups will have tents and booths order to share their services with the public who may not know about them. As an added incentive, snow cones and hot dogs will be provided along with a bounce house. CAC’s Director of Development Suzann Woodward said the event started in Wise County a few years ago with the CAC, which has been in Denton County for the last 27 years, partnering with other agencies in a way to be less intimidating. The CAC works with families whose children have suffered trauma such as physical or sexual abuse. “We make sure that justice is served for the child and put them on the part to healing,” Woodard said. “We need to be more visible in the Jack County community and this will help us do just that.” Jacksboro Police Chief Bryan Corb said the department will be working traffic control and the Jacksboro Police Officers Association will be providing the hot dogs and accompaniments. The department will also have a table there passing out information on safety, including a bicycle safety program Saturday, April 13. Corb also said the CAC will be putting out pinwheels the courthouse lawn Friday, April 5 in honor of those who have been abused. Other local sponsors include Faith Community Hospital, Lowe’s, Jacksboro Police Department, Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Bible Baptist Church.
