Phariss, a Jacksboro High School senior, signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Kansas Christian College earlier this month. She is following a coach she met during a select softball tournament in Longview nearly two years ago. “In February last year, I had a visit there,” Phariss said. “It’s a small town and a small school. I don’t learn well with big classes so it’s a good fit. The school is located in Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City, Mo. Phariss said the school plays its games at the Kansas City Royals complex. Phariss will be going into education. Despite being two states away for college, Phariss said her parents supported her in the decision. “They don’t like the distance but said if I’m happy, they’re happy,” Phariss said. Phariss said what intrigued her with the school is it’s a young and growing program which she wanted to be a part of. Phariss has been a four year player for coach John Bennett, starting off as a courtesy runner and using her speed to help the Tigerettes make it all the way to the regional final as a freshman. She worked her way into the starting lineup as a sophomore, taking over in the outfield where her speed has helped the Tigerettes.
