MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Rifle Range Road near the Isle of Palms Connector was closed Wednesday night due to a vehicle collision caused by a fleeing suspect.

An Isle of Palms Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on the IOP Connector around 8:45 p.m., but the female driver fled. Due to department policy, police did not pursue the vehicle, said Sgt. Matt Storen.

The suspect, who fled the traffic stop, ran a red light and crashed into at least one other vehicle at the intersection of Rifle Range Road and the IOP Connector. The collision did result in non-life-threatening injuries for both drivers involved, said Alexis Douglas, spokesperson for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman is facing multiple charges from IOPPD and the Mount Pleasant Police Department, said Sgt. Storen.
