Memorial Day weather: What do forecasters predict for 2024 holiday?
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Memorial Day is just a week away, and so far it looks like the unofficial start of the summer will be cloudy and wet in the New York City area. The early forecast, according to AccuWeather, calls for Memorial Day proper to be cloudy with a 30% chance of showers. Temperatures will reach a high of 66 degrees and cloud cover is projected at 78%.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Recent years have seen a rise in the popularity of pet travel to the point where some pet owners would not leave the house without their animals. There are now fewer restrictions on pets traveling with their owners on buses, trains, and other modes of transportation. More hotels are now allowing cats, dogs, and birds inside. Many don’t care what kind of pet you bring as long as it stays within the weight restrictions.
Straphanger slashed on Manhattan subway station — with attacker still at large
A 36-year-old woman was slashed by a blade-wielding madman in a Lower East Side subway station early Sunday morning, the NYPD said. Following a 911 call, officers found the unidentified victim — who was cut at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station — with a laceration on her left leg, a department spokesperson said Sunday. Authorities brought her to Bellevue Hospital, where she is in stable condition.
