CEDAR CITY — Officials broke ground Monday for Central Iron County Water Conservancy District’s new maintenance and office building. Located on a 10-acre site at 710 South Westview Drive, the new facility is expected to be completed within one year, said Paul Monroe, the water conservancy district’s general manager.
Iron County contributes $1M toward Diamond Z Arena expansion
CEDAR CITY — Cedar City approved a $1 million agreement with Iron County to help fund the Diamond Z Arena expansion. The Diamond Z Arena is located in the Cross Hollow Arenas at 11 S. Cross Hollow Road. The Cedar City Council approved the memorandum of understanding on April 10 to receive up to $1 million in grant funds from Iron County to expand the indoor, city-owned arena. The project is estimated to cost over $2 million across three phases.
Man convicted of raping co-worker on Utah dairy farm
CEDAR CITY — A jury found a 28-year-old man guilty of four felonies related to the rape of his one-time co-worker. Miguel Angel Leon Gomez was convicted of rape, forcible sodomy and object rape — all first-degree felonies — and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. The case was tried in Iron County’s 5th District Court with an eight-member jury, for the 2021 assault after Gomez was located last year in Jerome, Idaho.
Iron County School District votes against return to ‘Redmen’ mascot for Cedar High School
CEDAR CITY — The Iron County School Board on Tuesday voted 4-3 to retain “the Reds” as the official moniker and a wolf as the mascot of Cedar High School. Board members Jeff Corry, Dave Staheli and Stephanie Hill cast votes in favor of the school reinstating “Redmen” as their mascot.
