IOWA — Former University of Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz has found a new job – one that will put him on the sidelines opposite his father this fall. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman , with credit to Pat Harty of Hawk Fanatic, reports that the younger Ferentz has been hired as an analyst by the University of Maryland’s football program. The hiring sets up a Ferentz vs. Ferentz matchup when head coach Kirk Ferentz takes his Hawkeyes to College Park on November 23rd.

Brian Ferentz coached at Iowa under his father – while his direct supervisor was technically the Athletic Director to skirt state nepotism laws – for twelve seasons, the final six as offensive coordinator. In 2023 Ferentz lead the Hawkeyes to a historically abysmal offensive performance, finishing the season as the lowest scoring unit while also gaining the fewest total yards. His contract was not renewed, a decision made by then-interim Athletic Director Beth Goetz.

Brian Ferentz played for his father at Iowa from 2002-2005. After a two year NFL career, he began his coaching career – first in New England for three years and then in Iowa City for the last twelve. With the Hawkeyes, Ferentz coached the offensive live, running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks at different times. As an analyst with Maryland he won’t serve in a coaching role, but will be involved in other aspects of game-planning and performance reviews.
