A detrimental mistake for Kyle Larson during the Indianapolis 500. Caught speeding on pit road, he served a pass-through. Less than 70 laps to go, the NASCAR driver had to serve his penalty and lost a lap after running as high as P6.

This has been a very eventful Indy 500. No one knows what is going to happen next. However, Kyle Larson did not want to make a mistake like this. Pit road is so important in the 500.

Speeding on pit road will cost you a pass-through and that means losing a lap. Worse yet? He’s not the only one a lap down .

Absolutely brutal way for this Indy 500 attempt to end. Kyle Larson chose to stay in Indianapolis because he truly believed he could compete for the win . To his credit, he was right there. Had he stayed in that position in the top-10, he would have had a shot at it.

Now, he has little chance to get that lap back and won’t be able to recover. Hindsight is 20/20 but having this result AND missing the start of the Coke 600 is just tough. Not how anyone wanted this weekend to end up going.

With how much hype and anticipation went into this race, this is a deflating result. From the rain to this pit road penalty – it’s all been disappointing.

UPDATE: Kyle Larson was put back on the lead lap after getting the wave around following a caution flag on Lap 154 of 200.

Kyle Larson too aggressive on pit road – not shocking

Pit road was always going to be toughest for Kyle Larson. Plain and simple. As a driver, Larson is aggressive on all parts of the track. He never lets up. When it comes to entering pit road, he is very aggressive.

It works out for him more times than not. However, it also gets him into trouble. Think to last year in the playoffs when he ran into the back of Ryan Blaney going onto pit road. Speeding penalties are not something foreign to Larson.

This time, it appears his brakes just didn’t lock up how he wanted. The tires smoked, he couldn’t get it slowed down in time, and it almost became obvious from the naked eye that he would be penalized.

Kyle Larson will have to fight for the best finish he can get among the lapped cars. A disappointing result, but I don’t think this is the one and only time that Larson makes this attempt.
