Police: Woman found dead on near north side; investigation underway

Update (10:15 a.m.) IMPD officials said this death is not considered a homicide. This story has been updated to reflect that this death is no longer being investigated as a homicide.

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead on the near north side early Friday morning.

Officers responded to North Meridian Street and East 16 ^th Street around 2:20 a.m. on a report of a person down. They found a woman at the location; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives and a deputy coroner responded to the scene. Officials said that the death is not considered to be a homicide, even while the department initially treated it as a homicide investigation “out of an abundance of caution.”

Police didn’t disclose the nature of the woman’s injuries or the cause of death.
