INDIANAPOLIS — Wawa is expected to officially break ground on its first Indiana store next month.

According to a news release, officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. on June 6 to launch construction of Wawa’s location on the north side of Indianapolis. The location, which will be at 3835 East 96th Street, is Wawa’s first store in Indiana.

This comes after the company announced in September 2023 that it would expand the chain throughout the state of Indiana and in the Midwest. The company expects to open its first Indiana stores in 2025.

Officials said that the event will feature information abut the business’s unique history and culture, provide an update on expansion plans locally and throughout the state, and showcase local investments and job opportunities.

The company has more than 1,050 convenience retail stores in eight states and Washington D.C., officials said in the release.

“Wawa looks forward to sharing more details on locations, expansion plans, community investment and timeline to opening its doors to new friends as well as sharing its core purpose of Fulfilling Lives, Every Day through its unique offering of food, fuel and convenience services,” the release said.
