The Indianapolis Colts have gotten through the 2024 NFL Draft and are filling out the roster with undrafted free agents rookies . With that, it's time for a way-too-early roster projection.

So much is going to change over the summer that the roster could look very different by the time training camp ends at the end of August.

Still, this is a good exercise to familiarize ourselves with the current state of the roster while gauging the big decisions the Colts will have to make throughout training camp and the preseason.

Following the draft, here's a projection of the Colts' 53-man roster in 2024:

Colts roster projection following 2024 NFL Draft

    Quarterback (2)

    Anthony Richardson Joe Flacco
    • As long as Richardson is healthy, it's likely the Colts will carry two quarterbacks. There will be a battle for QB3 between Sam Ehlinger and a pair of undrafted free agents in Kedon Slovis and Jason Bean. Whoever wins that battle likely stays on the practice squad and will be the emergency QB on game days.
    • Notable Cuts: Sam Ehlinger

    Running Back (3)

Jonathan Taylor Trey Sermon Evan Hull
    • The Colts didn't make any major additions to the backfield so we should assume they will carry three. Maybe 2023 UDFA Zavier Scott makes an impact as a special teamer, and the RB2 role is largely up for grabs. They liked Hull, a 2023 fifth-round pick, and Tyler Goodson will be in the mix as well.
    • Notable Cuts: Tyler Goodson, Zavier Scott

    Wide Receiver (6)

    Michael Pittman Jr Ashton Dulin
    Alec Pierce Adonai Mitchell
    Josh Downs Anthony Gould
    • There won't be much room for competition for the final spot, and it will be interesting whether the Colts will carry six receivers. Given Gould's likely contributions on special teams, he makes it as the return man. Mitchell and Pierce will compete for the X-receiver role.
    • Notable Cuts: D.J. Montgomery, Juwann Winfree

    Tight End (4)

    Mo Alie-Cox Jelani Woods
    Kylen Granson Will Mallory
    • The only question here is whether Alie-Cox will be on the team. The Colts may only carry three tight ends if they're comfortable with Woods' health and progress as the potential starting Y tight end. For now, Alie-Cox is safe.

    Offensive Line (9)

    Bernhard Raimann Blake Freeland
    Quenton Nelson
    Ryan Kelly Tanor Bortolini
    Will Fries Josh Sills
    Braden Smith Matt Goncalves
    • There will be an interesting competition for the final spot, and there's an avenue where the Colts keep 10 offensive linemen. The rookie draft picks are probably safe bets to make the roster, and even though Goncalves is likely to kick inside , the Colts still don't have a fourth offensive tackle so the rookie will provide tackle-guard flexibility. The final spot could come down to Sills and Danny Pinter.
    • Notable Cuts: Danny Pinter, Wesley French

    Defensive Line (9)

    Samson Ebukam Laiatu Latu
DeForest Buckner Dayo Odeyingbo Jonah Laulu
    Grover Stewart Raekwon Davis
    Kwity Paye Tyquan Lewis
    • There's not much room for competition here. The final spot is likely going to come down to a choice between Taven Bryan, 2023 fourth-round pick Adetomiwa Adebawore and the 2024 seventh-rounder in Laulu. We give the benefit of the doubt to Laulu, but it could go either way.
    • Notable Cuts: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Titus Leo, Eric Johnson, Taven Bryan

    Linebacker (6)

Zaire Franklin Segun Olubi Isaiah Land
E.J. Speed Jaylon Carlies Grant Stuard
    • It will be interesting to see how the Colts go about the linebacker room. Carlies gets the benefit of the doubt thanks to his athleticism and likely role on special teams. Ronnie Harrison and Isaiah Land are likely battling for the final spot if they keep six.
    • Notable Cuts: Ronnie Harrison

    Cornerback (6)

    JuJu Brents Darrell Baker Jr
    Dallis Flowers Jaylon Jones
    Kenny Moore II Micah Abraham
    • The Colts will need as much depth as possible here. The final spot could come down to the slot role between Abraham and Chris Lammons. It could go either way, but we'll give the benefit of the doubt to the rookie until the competition starts.
    • Notable Cuts: Chris Lammons

    Safety (5)

    Julian Blackmon Daniel Scott
Nick Cross Rodney Thomas II Jaylin Simpson
    • Keeping five safeties might not be realistic, but the Colts probably want Scott's contributions on special teams. It seems the Colts are starting out rookie Jaylin Simpson at free safety, but he also has the flexibility to play as a nickel defender.
    • Notable Cuts: Trevor Denbow

    Specialists (3)

Matt Gay Rigoberto Sanchez Luke Rhodes
