INDIANAPOLIS – A driver was critically hurt after crashing her vehicle into a pole on the near south side late Monday night.

Authorities responded to the crash around 11:05 p.m. near Madison Avenue and Morris Street. There, they found a car had crashed into a utility pole. The vehicle became wedged between the pole and a guardrail.

Investigators said the car was traveling south on Madison when the crash happened. The driver, an adult female, was trapped against the steering wheel and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The woman was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Police don’t suspect impairment but said the driver would undergo the standard battery of tests.
