Quake in Riverside County shakes Valley
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake centered near Palomar Mountain shook the Coachella Valley area early Friday night. The temblor occurred just south of the Riverside County line and about 20 miles east of Fallbrook at 6:16 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage due to the earthquake, which shook communities as far south as San Diego.
Fire Erupts at Palm Desert Mall, Contained to Small Space
A fire broke out Friday in a Palm Desert shopping center but was quickly contained to a confined space, and no one was injured. The blaze was reported shortly before 8 a.m. in the Westfield Mall in the 72-800 block of Highway 111, near Monterey Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A 51-year-old man killed when his motorcycle clipped a guardrail and flipped over on Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms was identified today as a Santa Ana resident. Adolph Madrid was fatally injured about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-10, near Monterey Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
