Extensive fire damage to Independence home

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (KOAM) — Reports of a structure fire Saturday evening about 7 p.m. at 11th and Hickory Ave alerted Independence Fire-EMS.

Upon arrival Tower 1 found heavy fire on the back of the structure and detached garage with extension into the structure and attic.

Fire was under control in about an hour and after extensive overhaul crews were being dismissed about 9 p.m.

The home sustained extensive damage.

There were no injuries to the family however one firefighter was injured while fighting the fire.

Independence Rural Fire assisted Independence Fire-EMS along with Independence Police.
