A search team set out to find a missing man’s remains after his wallet was found years after he disappeared in Washington, deputies said.

They stumbled upon human remains during the search.

The effort was organized after someone found 32-year-old Eric Veith’s wallet on March 30 near where he was last seen in Ilwaco, the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office said in an April 13 news release.

Veith vanished June 6, 2021, deputies said.

Missing man’s vehicle found, no sign of him

He had been visiting his family’s beach house when he dropped his dog off at a neighbor’s home at about 7:30 a.m. June 6, 2021, telling them “he had to take care of some personal matters,” according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

His vehicle was then found at the Eagles Nest Resort , an RV park, two days later, according to NamUs and a Facebook group called Finding Eric Veith.

At the time, rescuers searched the area but never found him, the missing person database reported.

The Facebook group said an RV park worker had seen Veith as he wandered the property.

He was never seen after this sighting.

The discovery of his wallet nearly three years later set off another search effort for him, deputies said.

A search team found human remains April 13, deputies said, but they have not been identified as Veith.

“At this time, PCSO is processing the scene and will be conducting a thorough investigation,” deputies said.

Ilwaco is a southwestern Washington city that sits at the mouth of the Columbia River.
