Roundtable discusses ways to fill Pennsylvania's thousands of teachers vacancies
GREENSBURG, Pa. (KDKA) -- Pennsylvania's teacher shortage is in the spotlight again as teacher turnover is now at an all-time high. Right now, around 8,500 qualified teachers are needed to fill current vacancies statewide. Penn Hills School District’s 2024 commencement ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. tonight, May 31, at Yuhas-McGinley Stadium. The district has 296 graduates this year. Last semester, I took a class called Introduction to Formal Linguistics (LING 0500) solely for the purpose of fulfilling my Formal Reasoning and Analysis requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences curriculum’s Foundational Approaches. Unbeknownst to me when registering, this course was taught entirely through online videos, rather than in-class lectures. During class time, we would then complete practice exercises in a group setting with our professor available for questions.
