SMITHS STATION, Ala. (WTVM) - “I just don’t want my son coming home saying he’s being picked on and afraid to go in the lunch room,” said Nehemiah Mitchell. For 13 years, freshmen in Smiths Station had their classes held in the Freshman Center, a building designated for 9th graders as they begin the transition from Middle to High School. It was built because Sophomore through Senior classes in 2010 were so large. Lee County Superintendent, Dr. Mike Howard says it’s time for a change.
